PREFACE
You have taken on the task of training a youth team, so what now? The players, their parents and those in charge of the club’s youth section all expect different things of you. What are these expectations and how should you deal with them? And what do you expect of yourself? You want to be a good youth coach, but what actually makes a good youth coach? What goals do you set yourself, and how do you attain them? What should your work focus on? What is secondary and what should you avoid? This book can help you to master your task as youth football coach.
It will illustrate the ground rules for the work of a youth coach and will also give numerous practical tips. Two fictitious youth coaches („Kosta“ and „Freddy“) will illustrate the typical mistakes you should best avoid.
This book is not a scientific work, although it is based on several sciences which youth training work draws upon, such as physiology, psychology, education and sport sciences (i.e. The study of training). This book is not a treasure trove of football training exercises: there are already numerous specialist books, DVDs and other video material that can help you with that.
This book presupposes that acquiring a basic understanding of the work of a coach, from all angles, is more important than a large repertoire of exercises. It should help you to see clearly how you should approach the task of youth coach and should show you important „dos“ and „don’ts“.
Enjoy reading it.
